EYE LID SURGERY

Eye Lid Problems

Not all eye problems involve your eye itself. Sometimes, they start with your eyelid. Most of the time, these arenít serious and go away on their own, but get medical help right away if your eyes hurt or you have any sudden loss of vision. If your eye lid is swollen then it could probably indicate towrads some infection like conjunctivitis or stye (swelling near your eye lashes), chalazion, blepheritis etc. These problems generally are not very serious and may go away with certain medication and eye drops prescribed by an eye specialist. However there are certain eye problems that need intervention or surgery for correction. Some of the most common problems that may need surgery for correction are:

Ptosis

Entropion

Ectropion

Eye Lid Cyst

Treatment & Surgery

Ptosis - Ptosis is when the upper eyelid droops over the eye. The eyelid may droop just a little, or so much that it covers the pupil (the black dot at the center of your eye that lets light in). Ptosis can limit or even completely block normal vision. It is corrected by a surgery that lifts the eye lid to the right level.

Entropion / Ectropion - Entropion is a condition in which your eyelid turns inward so that your eyelashes and skin rub against the eye surface. This causes irritation and discomfort. Ectropion is a condition where your eyelid turns out and does not touch your eye. Surgery is needed to fully correct the condition. Left untreated, entropion can cause damage to the transparent covering in the front part of your eye

Eye Lid Cyst - A chalazion is a red bump on your eyelid. It is sometimes called an eyelid cyst. The eye lid cyst may be painful. The eye lid cyst may need to have the fluid drained through a small incision. You may also need an injection of steroids to reduce swelling and inflammation.
